Scheme to promote water conservation measures to benefit Kilkenny schools

Some 52 Kilkenny schools are to benefit from a scheme to promote water conservation.

The Government will provide funding to 52 Kilkenny schools to enable them to carry out work to reduce their use of water and save money.

Deputy John McGuinness welcomed the announcement.

“Schools have paid for their water based on usage since the beginning of this year so it is essential that they are given every practical support in conserving as much water as possible.”

The scheme is part of an almost €10 million water conservation scheme nationally where 1,823 schools will benefit.

The work that the Kilkenny schools will undertake includes installation of water displacement devices, percussion spray taps, thermostatic mixing valves and other water controls.

“The works will help the schools to reduce their water charges which I know will be welcome news for the Boards of Management and Trustees,” said Deputy McGuinness.

“I am confident that the schools will be able to secure best value for money for the work and that local firms will be able to bid for the contracts,” concluded Deputy McGuinness.
