Castlecomer public defibrillator to be launched

Castlecomer with defibrillators in public places, to which there would be immediate access in a case of emergency, will become a reality on Saturday next, October 23. A ceremony will take place at 1pm on The Square outside Eurospar and will mark the provision of two community defibrillators.

One is to be located outside Eurospar on The Square, the other at the community hall.

Mary Mealy, an organiser of the project says: “The original idea was to ensure access with minimal delay in case of emergency in the most frequented parts of the community at any time of day or night. Clubs have defibrillators available for use when activities are on and doctors’ surgeries also do. Similar publicly accessible defibrillators have been facilitated in communities around the country and it is hoped that in Castlecomer, as in other places, civic spirit will ensure that the defibrillator will be respected in this public setting”.

Eurospar, Castlecomer, and Foróige, Castlecomer, have funded the purchase of the defibrillators while The Wellington Race Committee provided funds, which will be the basis of a training programme.

Fundraising for training is ongoing and to this end Foróige members will be helping with bag-packing in Eurospar on Saturday next also.
