Theatre group brings Leaving Certificate curriculum to life

Theatre-company Fíbín Teo will be bringing their spectacular production of two items on the Irish Leaving Certificate curriculum, An Cearrbhach Mac Cába, and Fiche Bliain ag Fás, to Kilkenny.

Founded in 2003, Fíbín Teo is an Irish-language group based in Connemara. The group provide quality drama and offer a unique experience for people of all ages. According to Fíbín Teo’s web-site, “By using an innovative combination of drama and puppetry together on the one stage, the end result is a highly visual style of presentation which transcends all language boundaries, Fíbín productions make the Irish language accessible to everyone!”

Nominated for an ESB/Irish Times Theatre Award in 2005, Fíbín are well known for bringing the Irish language to life in their performances. Fíbín’s high standard of production, limitless energy, wealth of creative talent and humour will allow An Cearrbhach Mac Cába and Fiche Bliain ag Fás to be a show that sparks the interest of even the most indifferent students. The show brings together actors, puppets, and masks in a performance that is sure to keep all students engaged, irrespective of their level of Irish.

Fíbín’s latest tour started earlier this month and is set to continue until mid-December, finishing in Limerick city. The drama will take place in Kilkenny’s Watergate Theatre from November 8 until November 12. School children would benefit especially from the production due to its relevance to their study, says the performance group.

There will be shows twice daily at 10.30am and 1.30pm. Each show is approximately one hour long. Tickets are priced at €15, but a special rate of €12.50 applies to tickets booked and paid for two weeks prior to the production.
