The Saw Doctors return in a blaze of glory

The Saw Doctors will play their first public concert in Kilkenny in ten years on Friday October 15, at the Set Theatre to promote their new studio album, The Further Adventures of The Saw Doctors, which TV star and comedian Peter Kay launched at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin at the end of September.

Fronted by Tuam songwriters, Leo Moran and Davy Carton, The Saw Doctors entered the record books back in September 1990 when I Useta Lover spend nine weeks at No. 1 in the Irish Charts, becoming Ireland’s best selling single of all time. The Saw Doctors followed up with another No. 1 hit, N17, and a chart topping album, If This Is Rock & Roll, I Want My Old Job Back.

In the last two years, The Saw Doctors have blazed back phoenix-like from almost two decades of unsung glory. Out of the blue, their punched up cover of the Sugababes “About You Now” rocketed to Number One in Ireland, restoring them to their rightful place as Ireland’s best-loved good-time band. Last October, Universal Music released the bands ‘Best Of’ collection ‘To Win Just Once..The Best of The Saw Doctors’ which debuted at No. 3 in the Irish Charts and went on to achieve Platinum Status, selling over 25,000 CD’s.

At the Set Theatre concert in Kilkenny on Friday October 15, The Saw Doctors will play a mixture of their Greatest Hits such as Hay Wrap, Clare Island, N17 and I Useta Lover, N17, as well as songs from their new album, The Further Adventures of The Saw Doctors, including their current single, Well Byes, which has received almost 10,000 hits on You Tube in the past week.

The Further Adventures of The Saw Doctors is the Galway bands seventh studio album and this Summer, The Saw Doctors played the 40th Anniversary Glastonbury Festival, Oxegen Music Festival at Punchestown, and the V Festivals in England at Stafford and Chelmsford. In August, The Saw Doctors toured the USA selling out the 2,500 capacity Cape Cod Melody Tent in Massachusetts.

In March, The Saw Doctors toured Australia for the first time in 17 years, playing the Port Fairy Folk Festival in Victoria, and sold out shows in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Melbourne.

The current Saw Doctors lineup includes founding members Davy Carton on Vocals, Leo Moran on Guitars, along with former Waterboy Anthony Thistlethwaite on Bass Guitar and Saxaphone, Éimhín Cradock on Drums and Kevin Duffy on Keyboards and Backing Vocals.
