A new farming programme is to start on KCLR 96fm while the weekly business programme has also returned for the autumn series.
Farming journalist and commentator Matt O’Keeffe will present the new weekly farming programme on KCLR96FM.
The programme, which will simply be called The Farm Show, will be broadcast each Thursday at 8pm.
The programme comes three months after the death of Mike Burke, former presenter of KCLR’s popular Down to Earth programme for the past six years.
Matt O'Keeffe is a dairy farmer, journalist, deputy editor and machinery editor of the Irish Farmers Monthly. He has held the posts of national president of Macra na Feirme and also chairman of the Farm Apprenticeship Board.
The new farm programme will be a weekly mixture of news, views, technical information, and interviews with farmers and people involved in working in the rural community.
“We have consulted widely about what members of the farming community want to hear on air and we are confident that the new programme will build on the huge popularity of the high quality local farm programme which was pioneered by Mike Burke,” said Sue Nunn, editor at KCLR.
Matt O’Keeffe commented: “I am delighted to take on the challenge of hosting KCLR's Farm Show. I hope to maintain the high standard of agricultural reporting set by the station and my aim will be to present a programme that is informative, relevant, and entertaining.”
KCLR also announced the return of its weekly business programme The Bottom Line on Tuesday evenings at the new time of 6.15pm.
The programme is aimed at members of the business community as well as people with an interest in business and economic issues, and is sponsored by Carlow and Kilkenny enterprise boards.
The programme is presented by KCLR chief executive John Purcell, who is director of both Kilkenny and Carlow chambers of commerce.
“In the current business environment The Bottom Line provides a great forum for highlighting positive business stories and generating discussion and debate about important issues,” said Mr Purcell.
Both programmes will be produced by KCLR presenter and producer Edwina Grace.
