Sue Ryder shop in dire need of support

The Sue Ryder charity shop is asking the people of Kilkenny for their support in the way of donations and volunteer staff.

The Sue Ryder Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping older people live safely, securely and independently. The Sue Ryder shop in Kilkenny is one of the oldest charity shops in the city, having been established here over 20 years. Manager Margaret Egan has taken over the shop in the last three weeks and is working to raise public awareness of the shop and their needs.

“The Sue Ryder Foundation is involved in building and maintaining homes for the elderly throughout Ireland,” said Margaret. “President Mary McAleese recently visited the Sue Ryder homes for the elderly in Carlow to acknowledge the great work of the foundation.”

The store relies on donations in order to raise funds for the elderly in need. Donations are always welcomed by the charity shop including items such as clothes, toys, hardware, shoes and various other bric-a-brac.

Margaret is actively looking for more volunteers to help with the day to day running of the charity shop. Sue Ryder’s offers an opportunity for people to donate a few hours of their week to help a worthy charity. It also allows them to build up valuable experience of shop work which is particularly useful to those currently unemployed and who do not wish to remain idle.

Torn or otherwise damaged clothes may also be recycled at the Sue Ryder shop, which is an incredible facility as it utilises otherwise useless clothing.

The Sue Ryder charity shop is located on Kieran Street, Kilkenny. Donations are greatly appreciated and volunteers can apply within the shop. For more information contact: 056 7756857
