Erin’s Own GAA club receives Sportstar Bursary Award

Erin's Own GAA Club, Castlecomer, was one of the clubs selected to receive a bursary to the value of €5,000 as part of the 2010 Texaco Sportstar Bursary Awards.

The executive committee of the club attended a media reception on Wednesday last in the Conrad Hotel, Dublin, to receive their bursary.

Erin’s Own were chosen as one of 20 sports clubs in Ireland to receive the bursary, which will be used to develop the club facilities at Ballycomey, Castlecomer with the goal of making it the leading club grounds in Kilkenny.

Club secretary Stephen Dwyer entered the awards in July by submitting a detailed business plan listing a schedule of proposed works and statement of development. The entry was evaluated by an independent panel of sports experts, who based their decision on a combination of worthiness of the project and the clubs they felt were deserving of the bursary. The club was made aware of the news two weeks ago by Texaco Ireland and has since announced it to the main club committee.

Erin’s Own GAA club celebrates its 125th anniversary this year and is delighted to receive this award which will benefit all members of the club.
