Two Fiesta models recently completed the Irish leg of a world tour which included a matchmaking trip to Lisdoonvarna.
The global tour will see the Ford supermini cover four continents and more than 15,000 road miles finishing up at the Sydney Motor Show in late October.
The world tour began in Los Angeles on August 20, crossed the US to New York, and began the Irish leg in Shannon, Co Clare. The worldwide expedition has been organised to mark the launch of the Ford Fiesta in the US and to celebrate the millionth Fiesta sale which will occur during September.
The tour also highlights the Fiesta’s global reach as the car is sold in every major market across the world.
Throughout the two-month long global expedition, the drivers and guest-drivers on the route will be highlighting some interesting stories and information on the areas covered by the tour on the site: www.thefordstory.com For example on the Irish leg of the tour, the two Fiestas paid a visit to the village of Lisdoonvarna, to meet with local matchmaker Willie Daly, who claims to have ‘matchmade’ 10,000 couples.
To make the most of the Fiesta’s global presence, each leg of the expedition is using locally built cars - on the European leg, journalists will be piloting left-hand drive Fiestas built in Cologne, Germany.
Following an overnight in Dublin, the tour then sailed across the Irish Sea to Britain and eventually onto mainland Europe via the Channel Tunnel. From there, the tour will continue across China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and then across the Australian continent to finish up in Sydney.
The two Fiestas that will complete this massive road trip will then be presented at the Sydney Motor Show in late October.
