“ We moved out in July 2007 — when we had just one all-Ireland final won!” joked Mr Nolan. “We are very happy to be moving back into our old quarters, which now look nothing like they did before.”
With the new facilities Kilkenny Courthouse will now be able to facilitate the High Court in Kilkenny, which had not been the case to date. On opening week, the first sitting will be the District Court, which will be followed on October 5, by the Circuit Court which will sit for the week. The new rooms will allow up to five judges to sit simultaneously without interruption, which was never possible in the past.
It is understood an official opening of the courthouse will take place on October 15 when the Minister for Justice is expected to attend to cut the ribbon.
