A problem, which arose from a mix up in dates last Saturday, ended splendidly for the managers of the O'Loughlin Gael's under 10 hurling team.
Having been invited and accepted to play in hurling tournaments in James Stephens and also Gorey Co Wexford not realising they were both fixed for the same day the management team split their squad down the middle. They sent half the boys to Gorey and the other half competed in the Village.
These boys are a talented outfit and unbelievably both teams won their respective tournaments. This feat has never been achieved by O’Loughlin Gaels before and one would presume it has never been done by any GAA club. A very well done to the under 10 squad and managers.
O'Loughlin’s minors qualify for championship semi final
The O'Loughlin Gaels minor team produced a five star performance in Bennettsbridge last Friday night when disposing of fancied John Lockes of Callan in the Roinn A minor championship quarter final.
O'Loughlin’s took an early two goal lead and were never bettered throughout an exciting tie. The continentals won the game on a scoreline of 4-12 to 2-6.
O’Loughlin’s will now play city rivals and championship favourites Dicksboro in the semi final.
O'Loughlin’s under 14s in the county final
The O'Loughlin Gaels under 14 team have qualified for the county final after beating John Lockes of Callan and Rower Inistiogue in recent championship ties.
This panel of players have already had great victories in the Kilkenny Feile na nGael and the Kilkenny under 14 football league. They are awaiting their opposition for the hurling championship final where a victory would top off an already excellent year.
Seniors to play St Martins in quarter final
Best of luck from all in St Johns Parish goes to Mick Nolan and Andy Comerford as they embark on another Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship with O’Loughlin’s. The seniors have been drawn against St Martins in what should be a mouth watering winner takes all clash. However, O'Loughlin’s have been cursed with injuries all season.
With midfielder Mark Kelly and Brian Hogan unlikely to be fit for any local championship game, former county man Brian Dowling suffered a nasty hand injury last week in training and will take no part in this weekend's knockout fixture. Full back Andy Kearns had to sit out last weekends Shield Final having torn his hamstring. Star forward Martin Comerford has a broken finger and has not trained since the All-Ireland. Add this to the departure of Tipperary's Paul Kelly and one can have sympathy with O’Loughlin’s new management team.
