Sligo -based artist Sue Morris plays with the boundaries of what defines a drawing in her forthcoming exhibition The Obsessive Compulsive Drawings in the Watergate Theatre, Upstairs Gallery from Friday September 3 - October 8.
This current exhibition is an attempt by the artist to interpret, track, record and acknowledge the experience and impact of long term chronic illness within her family unit. The images reference maps, geometry, visual puzzles, graphic constructs and diagrams which are then overlaid with drawn suggestions of organic matter and accumulated marks.
Found objects and materials in conjunction with mixed media such as Tippex, markers and household paints are used in an interdisciplinary approach which carries Sue’s work from drawing to collage to print making and into photography and installation.
Repetition is central to her work and examines sameness and difference as well as articulating obsessive compulsive behaviour.
Sue Morris followed her degree at Chelsea College of Art with an MA from the Royal College of Art, London. She moved to Ireland in the early 90's and now lives in County Sligo.
She has exhibited widely in the UK and Ireland and has had work commissioned by, and held, in corporate, public and private collections.
