Embracing technology at National Craft Gallery

The National Craft Gallery will host an informal tour of their current exhibition, ‘Embracing Technology’, this Friday evening, August 27, at 6pm.

Guests can enjoy a glass of wine and popular local musician Jeremy Hickey (RSAG ) will give a tour of ‘Embracing Technology’, focusing on creativity, craft and new technologies.

The exhibition involves 14 makers who are pushing the boundaries of their craft through inventive use of materials and technology, combining new technologies like laser cutting, water jet cutting, rapid prototyping, motion capturing, textiles set in concrete, interactive magnetic wall coverings and site-specific textiles for walls and windows.

Through these the crafts people challenge our perceptions and expand the potential of craft.

Rarely Seen Above Ground is Jeremy Hickey, a one-man band from Kilkenny. During live shows he plays the drums and sings, using multi-media and new technologies to combine video of him playing the other instruments which is integrated into his performances.

The tour takes place at the National Craft Gallery in the Castle Yard, Kilkenny and the exhibition runs until October 22.
