New family carers group formed in Bagenalstown

A new group of family carers is being formed in Bagenalstown.

The launch of the initiative will take place on Friday August 20, in Bagenalstown Credit Union at 10.30am.

All family carers and former carers are invited to attend the first meeting of the group, which will be held in Bagenalstown Family Resource Centre on Tuesday September 7, at 10.30am.

The idea for the new group has come as a result of a very successful FETAC Level 5 Care Skills course, which was attended by people in the Bagenalstown area.

The inaugural meeting, on September 7, will discuss the aims and objectives of the group, and the needs of family carers locally. The group will also discuss the benefits of a free listening/counselling service.

“We are delighted with the launch of this project,” said Pat Grogan, The Carers Association.

“We organised the FETAC course early in the year, which was delivered by our tutor, Ann Jacob, who lives locally.”

The course was delivered in the new Family Resource Centre in Bagenalstown. The Family Resource Centre is managed by Anne Shortall.

“Our centre is delighted to host this new group,” said Ann. “Family carers are very important to our community, and we will help in every way possible to support them.”
