Heritage Week kicks off in Kilkenny this week from Saturday August 21 — 29 with a host of fun and entertaining activities.
There are many cultural events planned in Kilkenny to celebrate the very rich heritage and culture that Kilkenny has on offer.
Rivers in Ireland have a long and usually interesting history. One of the most enjoyable methods of learning about the history of the river and its people is in the company of a knowledgeable local guide who can recall and bring to life the often exciting and always interesting story of who, when and what happened along the river over the years. Such an opportunity is on offer during the Heritage Week in Kilkenny.
On Wednesday, August 25 at 7pm, Pat Foley, engineer and member of Kilkenny Archaeological Society, will lead a group from the Peace Park near Green’s Bridge to John’s Bridge starting his leisurely walk at 7pm.
This event is sure to be full of interesting facts and with his prowess as a storyteller, the event is sure to be entertaining aswell.
There is no need to book and there is no charge. Just turn up at the Peace Park by Green’s Bridge next Wednesday August 25 at 7pm.
Directly following the walk, at 8pm, all taking part are invited back to Rothe House, headquarters of Kilkenny Archaeological Society to inspect the major changes which have taken place there over recent years.
The evening entertainment planned include a concert by a local choir and light refreshments.
There is also an opportunity to learn more about the doings of the Kilkenny Archaeological Society, their various activities and subcommittees. This element of the evening is also free of charge and all are welcome to attend even if it is not possible to take part in the River walk.
