Chamber Philharmonia Cologne comes to Kilkenny

The Chamber Philharmonia Cologne has one goal — to make classical music accessible to as many people as possible from all nations.

They bring this dream to Kilkenny where they are playing a one-off concert in St Canice’s Cathedral on Wednesday evening.

The Chamber Philharmonia’s concert calendar includes around 150 concerts in Germany and a further 200 spread across the globe this year alone.

The Chamber Philharmonia Cologne was founded in 2003 in Cologne — a city that is famous throughout the world for its musical and instrumental teaching. Here the Chamber Philharmonia continuously draws on the talent emerging from the master classes of the professors. In total, over 100 members have now performed in the constantly changing ensemble that is the Chamber Philharmonia Cologne.

The musicians are carefully selected according to the strictest criteria to form numerous ensembles from the chamber to the symphony orchestra. Following an intensive period of rehearsal, the orchestra heads off across the world on tour, entering into the realms of musical adventure.

The programme for the Kilkenny concert includes a selection from Vivaldi including Parts of L’estro Armorico: The Four Seasons, Summer,

Concerto La Notte for flute, strings and basso continuo RV 439. Bach’s Suite in B-minor for flute and orchestra, Niccolò Paganini’s Moses variations for violonchello and stringorchestra and iotr Tchaikovsky’s Elegie in rememberance of IW Samarin (1884 ).

This is expected to be a very special event of classical music. Tickets are available for Wednesday night’s concert from Ticketmaster and on the door one hour prior to the concert. The performance begins at 8pm.
