The AIB Photojournalism Exhibition comes to Kilkenny

The stunning AIB Photojournalism Exhibition 2009, a collection of Ireland’s most striking and memorable press photographs from last year, will be on display in AIB Bank, High Street, Kilkenny until Friday August 20.

This is AIB’s eighth year of partnership with the Press Photographers’ Association of Ireland, in sponsoring their annual awards and exhibition, which provides an ongoing support and platform for Irish photojournalism. Entries for the awards reached a record high this year, with over 2,000 images entered from 130 photographers, all demonstrating an exceptional level of skill.

The overall AIB Photojournalist of the Year 2009 title was awarded to Mark Condren, Sunday Tribune.

The judging panel commented, “This year’s AIB Photojournalist of the Year presented everything you would want from a prize-winning press photography portfolio. The photographs are strong on all aspects of the craft but crucially they also manage to tell the story and give the news with an eye to creating something different and lasting”.

Speaking about the visit, Bernie Byrne, branch manager AIB Bank, High Street, commented, “We are delighted this year’s AIB Photojournalism Exhibition is coming to Kilkenny, as it allows us to showcase the amazing level of skill and creativity among press photographers in Ireland to a broad audience.”
