Last Monday saw the launch of the novel Kilkenny Chamber Street Ambassador Programme.
For the next five weeks, the Chamber has employed two people to help and assist visitors to Kilkenny city with any queries they may have.
Alison McGrath, CEO, Kilkenny Chamber said, “we are delighted to have Chrissy and Laura working with us over the next few weeks. They are both passionate about Kilkenny and are looking forward to helping visitors access the information they might require. Whether people are looking for directions to heritage sites, places to eat or a particular retail experience, they will be on hand to assist. It is important that visitors to Kilkenny are greeted with a friendly smile and a professional approach and we are delighted to have the programme underway. The ambassadors are clearly identifiable in their branded black and amber uniforms so give them a wave as you pass by!
Kilkenny is only the third city in Ireland and the first in the south-east to have street ambassadors and Chamber is confident that the programme will be a success and repeated again in 2011.
“Chamber has developed a number of initiatives over the last 12 months aimed at attracting people to support local jobs by buying Kilkenny Chamber Shopping Vouchers ensuring their money is retained in Kilkenny and the ‘Work local-Shop local’ campaign which highlighted the need for us all to continue to shop in Kilkenny.
“We launched the ‘City in Bloom’ initiative in May of this year facilitating businesses purchase high quality window boxes or hanging baskets. The initiative garnered the support of over 40 businesses and added additional colour to our city during the peak tourism season,” added Ms McGrath.
