Bagenalstown estate turns 75

Residents of St Brigid’s Crescent in Bagenalstown are gearing up for a major celebration as the town’s oldest housing estate celebrates its 75th anniversary.

And local councillors are calling on everybody in the town to help mark the special occasion, which takes place on October 26.

“I have lived there all of my life and it is a lovely part of the world,” said Cllr Derek Mahon.

“It is the oldest housing estate in Bagenalstown and it was built originally by the town council. It is a very good neighbourhood and I wish the community and organisers the best of luck.

“It would be a good idea to mark the occasion in some way as it is an estate the town council built.”

The council is considering erecting a plaque or another memento to mark the anniversary. There will be various activities on the day including mass in the parish church followed by a buffet in McGrath Hall.
