Inistioge Vintage Rally to continue legacy of late organiser

The Rothwell family are looking forward to the annual Inistioge Vintage Rally with mixed emotions this year, with the memory of the late Leslie Rothwell sure to be overwhelmingly present on the day.

Continuing the legacy of his father, Roy Rothwell will be organising the Inistioge Vintage Rally this weekend, the prestigious rally’s first year without Leslie Rothwell at its helm since its inception more than 20 years ago.

In his honour, this year will see the inaugural award of the new Leslie Rothwell Trophy, which will be presented to the best vintage exhibit. The official opening ceremony will be performed by local man John Bryan, president of the Irish Farmers Association.

Preparations have been extensive for the event, which is due to take place this August bank holiday weekend on Sunday, August 1.

In the idyllic setting of the charming village of Inistioge on the banks of the River Nore in south Kilkenny, the annual event has proven a great day out for all the family, and there is plenty to delight the vintage enthusiast in 2010.

The traditional Slievenamon vintage club road run will once again kick start proceedings tomorrow Saturday, July 31, travelling along the route from Mullinahone to Inistioge and arriving in the town at 6pm.

On display on the Sunday there will be vintage cars, tractors, motorbikes, stationary engines and farm implements, while there will also be entertainment for the family in the form of live music and dancing, a baby show, face painting, the ever popular dog show, a bouncy castle, quality stalls, the rally farmers market and all kinds of novelty events.

As always, proceeds from the day will be donated to local charities and organisations, with the Carlow-Kilkenny Home Care Team chosen as the primary beneficiaries this year.
