A civil engineering company has lodged a claim with Kilkenny County Council to the tune of €30m.
The claim for compensation from the contractor of the M9 Waterford to Knocktopher road, Bam Civil Ltd, has been lodged as a result of alleged delays that were experienced by the company in gaining approval for the design of the Knockmoylan railway bridge. The claim involves Iarnrod Eireann and works to the railway line.
The National Roads Authority (NRA ) which, along with the county council is a defendant in the claim, confirmed the action is one of a number of multimillion euro claims involving Iarnród Éireann.
Kilkenny County Council and its consultants, Arup, are understood to be examining the claim by the company which may be settled by an arbitration.
The motorway between Knocktopher and Waterford opened in March of this year but the scheme ran some nine months over schedule. The scheme cost €274 million.
The 22km of road links the Waterford bypass road at Dunkitt, to Knocktopher, Co Kilkenny.
It is understood that the final section – Knocktopher and Carlow – will open in the autumn this year.
