Under 16 football blitz

Kilkenny’s under 16 girls will get the chance to show off their skills in an under 16 football blitz to be held on Saturday, July 31. All clubs are invited to enter a team (nine a side ) and can amalgamate with a neighbouring club if numbers are required.

With an invite extended to some Carlow clubs it is hoped to have eight teams in the competition. Games will be ten minutes per half and the action will kick off at 10am. There will also be a penalty kick and long kick competition to add to the fun of the day. This will be a chance for Kilkenny’s newest juvenile club Piltown to make their debut and the day will without doubt unearth some stars of the future. Clubs are urged to return their entry form with €20 entry fee to the county secretary by Tuesday, July 27.

Leinster under 14 blitz

Kilkenny have entered the Leinster under 14 blitz for the past four years and claimed the Division 3 title in 2009 with a thrilling win over Kildare in the final. The Cats will be hoping for further success in this year’s blitz to be held at Carlow hurling grounds on Monday, August 2.

With Thomastown, Freshford and Piltown having a supply of under 14s and several girls from Skeough, Galmoy and the city lining out with the county panel Kilkenny hope to enter two teams in this year’s blitz and will strive to claim another underage title for the Cats to add to the Leinster U14 championship and under 16 Shield. Under 14s will be notified of training within the coming days to prepare for the competition on August 2.
