Although the Kilkenny ladies were not involved in this year’s provincial finals, the Cats were represented by some footballers of the future when an 11 a side team selected from this year’s primary schools finals took part in the half time mini game at the Leinster ladies football finals in Dr Cullen Park on Sunday.
While the adult players of Wicklow, Louth, Dublin and Laois were vying for provincial honours — teams from the twelve Leinster counties had the honour of taking the field at half time in both games to show off their skills. The Kilkenny girls played a short game against neighbours Carlow and Mapleflower Doyle—Ryan grabbed an early goal to see the Cats win their game by 1-0 to 0-2. The girls and their parents were greeted by a representative of Leinster Ladies Football before being presented with a full set of black and amber playing gear. The teams took their seats to watch the junior decider between Wicklow and Louth before taking the field to a great round of applause from the large crowd at Dr Cullen Park.
The Kilkenny girls had a very enjoyable afternoon and all hoped that they will some day be part of the competitive action on Leinster finals day with their county.
