Kilkenny’s landmark castle and its stunning grounds are set to be a hub of summer activity this month with a varied range of events due to take place.
The city and county welcome the inaugural Kilkenny City Triathlon towards the end of the month and the event promises to be a highlight on the sporting and social calendar with the runnning leg taking part in the Castle Park.
The traditional triathlon features a swim in the river Nore, a cycling leg through the county’s roads and finally the run through the park.
There will be both Olympic and Sprint triathlons taking place, with the Olympic distance featuring a 1,500m swim, 40km cycle, and 10km run, while the Sprint distance consists of a 750m swim, 20km cycle, and 5km run. The triathlon takes place on Saturday, July 24. For more information on the event visit www.trikilkenny.com On Wednesday evenings throughout the month the Parade Tower in Kilkenny Castle will host An Evening of Irish Music, Song and Dance’ with Ceoltoiri Kilkenny.

And for anyone looking for a new, fun and sociable activity the castle will also host ‘Croquet at the Castle Park’ for adults on Wednesdays, July 14 and 21.
Croquet is a light form of physical activity, played outdoors on grass where opponents strike balls through hoops with a mallet. A surreal version of the game famously appeared in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
