Everyone should take at least one flight in a light aircraft

A trial flying lesson with the Recreational Flying Club offers the opportunity to see Kilkenny city and the surrounding countryside from a new perspective.

The trial lesson includes a 15-minute briefing on the ground to outline how the aeroplane flies and how it is controlled. Then it’s into the air for a 30 minute flight under the supervision of an instructor. The whole process taking about one hour to complete at a cost of just €100.

While flying light aircraft is largely a recreational activity, it’s a fact that the majority of commercial pilots started out by learning to fly light aircraft. Taking a trial lesson with the Recreational Flying Club is the ideal way to find out if a career in aviation is for you. To this end the club is offering a special half day introduction to learning to fly. This is available daily during the summer months at a cost of €270. The short course includes two flights totalling 90 minutes with classroom briefings before each flight. The aim is to give a taste of what is involved in learning to fly and outline the career opportunities.

The Recreational Flying Club operates two training aircraft from its base at Kilkenny Airfield. This is located approximately 2km to the west of Kilkenny City on the Tullaroan road. Check out the website on www.recreationalflyingclub.blogspot.com
