New chairman for Kilkenny County Council

It is widely expected that Cllr Catherine Connery will be appointed the next Cathaoirlaeach of Kilkenny County Council at a special meeting of the council this afternoon.

Fine Gael Cllr Connery is a Ballyragget electoral area councillor living in Conahy and she has many years of experience, serving as a member of the council since 1999.

This would be her first time serving as chairman of the council.

Fine Gael, Labour and the Greens have a voting pact in operation which sees that only a member of one of these parties will get elected to the chair. Fianna Fail members are heavily critical of the pact which has seen their party left out of any opportunity of becoming chairman until after the next local elections.
