Donation Day reminds us to donate old belongings to good cause

Oxfam Ireland in Kilkenny held a day of fun and festivities to celebrate Donation Day last Friday which is attempting to highlight the need for donations to Oxfam.

Kilkenny senior hurling manager Brian Cody was there to support the event, alongside local magician Nevin Cody – winner of Ireland’s Best Magician Award in 2010 – KCLR also broadcast live from the shop on the day.

Donation Day was part of a nationwide campaign to encourage people to part with their unwanted goods so Oxfam can give them a second life and raise much needed funds for its work in Africa.

Donations to Oxfam’s shops over the last 12 months have decreased considerably. Oxfam Kilkenny is attempting to reverse this decline and it organised its very own Donation Day as a reminder to people to rummage through their pre-loved goods and drop them into their local Oxfam shop.

Oxfam shop manager, Johanna Hegarty said, “the people of Kilkenny have been really generous in the past so we are hoping the festivities will remind people about their local Oxfam shop and urge them to donate their unwanted clothes, CDs, books and homewares”.
