The Bulgarian ambassador to Ireland has reiterated his desire to extend links with Kilkenny in a crafts and cultural arena.
Ambassador Emil Sarov Yalnazov who visited Kilkenny last month has expressed interest in developing further links between Kilkenny and Bulgaria, particularly in the area of crafts.
Speaking at this month’s meeting of Kilkenny Borough Council, Mayor Malcolm Noonan said, “The ambassador has been in touch since his visit and wants to take these links further, and I think we should try to continue a cultural tie with Bulgaria as I believe we could also capitalise on this link.
“During his visit the ambassador was very impressed with Kilkenny and in particular with its crafts culture. He is very keen to foster links with our city and I think this link should be nurtured,” he said.
He asked for the council to support this initiative into the future.
The ambassador had originally been visiting the city with a view to twinning possibilities with Kilkenny.
