Gardai carry Special Olympics torch to Kilkenny

Members of Kilkenny Gardai along with members of the PSNI carried the Special Olympic torch to The Mother of Fair Love School in Kilkenny this week during the Law Enforcement Torch Run around the country.

The 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Games will take place in Limerick and Clare from June 9 – 13. This will be one of the biggest sporting events to take place in Ireland this year with more than 1,900 athletes participating in 14 sports.

This week the Flame of Hope will be carried throughout Ireland by members of An Garda Síochána and the PSNI.

Local members of both police services will carry the torch as it makes its way through their District/Division. A permanent runner representing both An Garda Síochána and the PSNI will form part of each running leg and will be supported by local Gardaí or police officers. A support team, including a representative from eircom is accompanying each route to oversee logistics, timings and dressing of venues.
