Raiders brandish fake gun in Paulstown robbery

Staff at a supermarket in Paulstown were threatened with what turned out to be a replica gun in a terrifying robbery in the town last Monday.

The raid took place in Purcells Quickpick in Paulstown on Monday at around 4pm and two suspects were arrested later the same evening in Castlecomer.

A male and a female entered the quickpick shop and one of them was brandishing an ‘imitation firearm’ which was used to threaten staff, local gardaí said.

They escaped with a sum of money and no-one was hurt during the incident. The pair made their getaway from the scene in a maroon taxi which they had hired.

As a result of further enquiries the suspects were arrested in Castlecomer later that evening and were taken first to Kilkenny garda station before being transferred to Thomastown garda station for questioning.

They were charged in relation to the incident and were remanded in custody to Mountjoy and St Patrick’s Institution, pending payment of bail, which has been granted.
