Free electrical recycling with WEEE Ireland

WEEE Ireland, in association with Kilkenny County Council, is holding a free electrical recycling day on Saturday May 29.

This one day only event will be taking place in Quay car park, Thomastown; Church car park, Mooncoin and Duggan Steel Group, Callan (formally Tube Rollers Site ) from 10am to 4pm.

All household electrical equipment and waste batteries will be collected for free at these locations. WEEE Ireland will be distributing free reusable shopping bags and battery recycling boxes to every car.

WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, which is anything from your house with a plug or a battery. This may include large household appliances like fridges and washing machines, but also smaller equipment like toasters, vacuum cleaners, remote controls and computers. The responsible management of this waste is of utmost importance, as many of these items contain substances which may pose a threat to the environment and human health if placed in your general waste or recycling bin, or worse still dumped illegally.

Electrical recycling events such as this one have collected 2,745 tonnes of electrical equipment since 2007, that’s over 65times the weight of a Boeing 747! A full list of future recycling events is available on WEEE Ireland’s website www.recyclefree.ie

All WEEE and waste batteries can also be brought to your local civic amenity site free of charge. Visit www.recyclefree.ie to find your nearest site.
