The Kilkenny VFI Stars of our Bars county final, in association with Smithwick’s, took place in the Kilford Arms on John Street, Kilkenny city recently and without doubt, the competition was tough.
The top act on the night was Tom Kirwan from Ryan’s Bar winning first place, followed by The Accousticats from The Rafter Dempseys and Shona Lannigan from the Kilford Arms.
All three acts will now represent their county in the Regional Final taking place in the Seven Oaks, Carlow Town on Friday, June 4.
But they will meet stiff competition with the other county finalists from Wexford, Wicklow, Carlow, Waterford, Offaly and Laois also competing on the night.
Gerry Mellett, the newly elected President of the VFI, said, “we have seen some great talent across Ireland over the past four months and we were delighted with the high entry levels and interest in the competition. The next month will be an exciting time for publicans and contestants and we urge everyone to get involved and support their county finalists.”
Contestants stand the chance to win up to €7,500 in the national final which takes place on 3 July 2010 in the Hazel Hotel, Monasterevin.
The regional final starts at 8.30pm in the Seven Oaks on Friday, June 4.
