Residents in the Upper Street, Lower Street, Dangan, and Narabane in Kilmacow have been circulated with a newsletter from Kilkenny County Council outlining the progress made to date on the installation of the sewerage scheme.
The pipe collection system has been completed and construction of the wastewater treatment plant is ongoing at Lower Kilmacow.
It is anticipated that the scheme will be ready to accept flows on a sequential basis from next month as part of the commissioning of the plant and it is expected that the scheme will become fully operational within a couple of months.
The newsletter reminds people that a separate connection has been provided at most properties in the area covered by the scheme. It must be noted that rainwater run off from roofs, yards, etc, will not be permitted into the sewerage scheme.
The council wishes to incentivise residents to avail of the scheme at the earliest possible opportunity, thus there will be no connection fee for connections before the end of this year.
The council has asked that households which wish to connect to the scheme contact the Water Services Section at 056-7794050 to arrange a site visit. This visit will include inspection of the existing drainage system and location of the site connection. Once permission is granted for a connection it is up to each household to employ a competent contractor for the connection work. Some householders have already completed this work.
Once the scheme becomes operational it will not only bring huge benefits to householders in the area but also have a positive impact on the groundwater in the Kilmacow area.
