Magical result at Irish Championships

A Kilkenny man scooped two prestigious accolades this May Bank Holiday weekend at the Stormont Hotel, Belfast, where the Diamond Jubilee International Brotherhood of Magicians Irish Magic Championships took place.

Top professional magicians from around the world flew into town to perform and also to judge the Irish Magician of the Year championships 2010 for stage magic and close up or proximity magic.

Kilkenny man and comedy magician Nevin Cody walked away with not just one but both titles for Stage Magician and Close up Magician of the Year 2010, a feat achieved by an elite number of magicians.

Mr Cody was especially proud, as the annual trophy for close up is the John Bowden trophy and Mr Bowden, who is from Urlingford, has been a mentor to Nevin.

“I am really proud of Nevin and am delighted to see the award go to him and see the trophy return back home,” Mr Bowden said.

Cody’s star has been rising within the world of magic in the last number of years and this was a very popular result. He is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and secretary of the Society of Irish Magicians.

In 2006 Cody was invited to join the prestigious and world famous The Magic Circle, an honour bestowed to only a very small number of Irish magicians, and an honour of which Cody is especially proud.

Cody is resident magician at the Secret Castle of Magic in the Bram Stoker museum in Fairview, Dublin, which he is getting great reviews. See www.thesecretcastleofmagic.com

He also does a lot of emcee work, children’s parties, and is a performance actor, and many readers may remember him back in the late eighties as lead singer for the CBS’s double award winning group in the No Name Club schools’ completion.

Nevin Cody rarely performs in Kilkenny but is soon set to return to home turf in a new variety show at Rivercourt Hotel Kilkenny on June 2 and 8. Contact 087-2676103 for further details.
