Kats theatre group debuts at The Red Door

For two nights only Kats theatre group will resurrect their acclaimed spring production of The Insanity of Mary Girard, A Step in the right, and The Extraordinary Revelations of Orca The Goldfish, in The Red Door Theatre, at the Bridge Brook Arms Thomastown on Thursday May 20 and Saturday May 22.

These shows richly complemented each other last March in Cleeres in Kilkenny city and many people will be delighted to get a chance to catch them again or see them for the first time.

The first play on the night The Insanity Of Mary Girard is based on true events. The young Mary Girard has been incarcerated by her wealthy husband in a psychiatric hospital for the rest of her days after he discovers she is pregnant with another man’s child. And so begins the journey for a young woman, left with nothing but her thoughts, as she is slowly but assuredly driven insane. As she realises the direness of her situation she is visited in her cell by the people who have placed her in this situation.

The second play is written and directed by local man John Whitely. A Step in the Right strikes a cord with anyone who has ever been involved in an amateur group as the committee seems to have very different ideas about who should direct the latest production, with hilarious consequences.

The final play on the night, The Extraordinary Revelations of Orca The Goldfish sees the extraordinary lengths that Henry and Alice will go to, to spice up their married life. They live out the lives of a plethora of characters with hysterical results under the watchful eye of Alice’s true love Orca.

Sol Bistro in Thomastown in association with the Red Door Theatre is offering a pre show dinner of two courses for €20 or three courses for €25. So why not make a night of it with good food and a great night’s entertainment.
