Kilkenny’s Keher honour at GWA legendary awards

The Gaelic Writers Association, GWA, honoured legendary players and great journalists at its annual awards dinner held at the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel during the week.

Every year the GWA inducts iconic players from the past into its Hall of Fame to acknowledge their on-field achievements. In football County Down’s Sean O’Neill, Teddy McCarthy of Cork, and Seamus Moynihan from Kerry, were honoured, while for hurling Eddie Keher from Kilkenny, Galway’s Joe Connolly, and Brian Whelahan of Offaly, were given the accolade. Lifetime Achievement Awards were also presented to legendary commentator Micheál Ó Muicheartaigh one of the longest serving radio broadcasters in the world, and Tom O’Riordan, who combined a career in athletics (competed in the 1964 Olympics ) with a lifetime career in print journalism. The GWA PRO of the year was presented to Jim Forbes, from Cork, who has been the Munster Council PRO for the past three years.
