Whitfield Cancer Centre resumes services for new patients

The HSE and the WHitfield Clinic in Waterford have announced that agreement has been reached for the continued provision of oncology services for patients in the south-east.

In a statement from the HSE, it was stated that the agreement was reached lthis week to put in place an interim agreement for the provision of radiotherapy services at UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre in the South East until the end of December next.

Both parties have been positively engaged in discussions in recent weeks and are working towards a long term agreement (until 2014 ).

The statement says that both parties remain committed to reaching agreement on a longer term service level agreement as expeditiously as possible and well before the expiry of the interim agreement.

However, in the interests of patients, both parties have formally signed up to an interim agreement so as to remove any uncertainty about ongoing radiotherapy treatment.

Recently the Whitfield Clinic issued a statement to the media outlining that they were not accepting any new patients until a new agreement was in place.
