Bridge Utd 1-3 Freebooters
‘Booters U11A's victory over Bridge Utd ensured they are now League Champions of the K Bowl Division 1 League. The Blues only needed a point to ensure top spot but from the kick off it was clear that they only had winning on their minds.
With a strong wind behind them ‘Booters piled on the pressure from the start with Brian O'Neill and Craig Hayes hitting the crossbar in the early stages. ‘Booters took the lead through Craig Hayes after a superb pass from Evan Swan. Bridge Utd equalised soon after the break through Gary Lalor when the Blues defence hesitated. This sparked off something in both teams and for the next 20 minutes it was end to end stuff with both teams playing some excellent football. The Blues finally broke down the resolute Goresbridge defence, with 2 goals from Evan Swan sealing the victory and a League Title for this hard working and talented group of players; Freebooters; Steven Scallon, Joe Banville, Kevin Murphy, Christopher Phelan, Edward Moylan (Capt ) Brian O'Neill, Dean George, Evan Swan, Jake Maher, Sean Bolger, Craig Hayes, Andy Walsh, James Mullally. Best for Bridge Utd; Gary Lalor and Chris Nolan.
U11 David Doran Cup
Freebooters 6-0 Highview Athletic
‘Booters U11's progressed to the semi final stages with a 6-0 victory over Highview Athletic in Scanlon Park.
Craig Hayes set the Blues on their way with 2 goals in the first 10 minutes. Jake Maher made it 3 with probably one of the best goals of the season. Joe Banville played the ball from just inside his own half to Craig Hayes who knocked the ball first time out wide to Brian O'Neill who sent in a great cross to the back post for Jake Maher to volley the ball home. Andy Walsh made it FOUR within a minute of the re-start after good work from Craig Hayes. Kevin Murphy added a fifth before Andy Walsh made it 6 from the penalty spot after being brought down himself in the area.
U12 Nicholas Marnell Cup
Freebooters B 0-3 Freebooters A
The scoreline would suggest the ‘Booters A team had it all their own way in this fixture but the B Team made them fight every step of the way.
Shane O’Shaughnessy set the A Team on their way when he got on the end of a Dylan Jordan cross to make it 1-0. Mark O'Neill got the 2nd goal with a near post header after great work again down the right wing by Dylan Jordan. Freebooters B really upped their game in the second half and were putting it up to their clubmates, however a third goal from Cian Loy put the game beyond their reach. Freebooters A progress to face Evergreen in the next round.
