With National League, under 16 and under 18 successes already in the bag for Kilkenny this year, a successful inter-county campaign for 2008 was completed for the Cats when Sinéad Brennan accepted intermediate silverware from Camogie Association President, Liz Howard, after Sunday's slender three-point victory at McDonagh Park in Nenagh.
Speaking after the game an overjoyed Sinéad was delighted to captain her county to a first ever intermediate All-Ireland camogie success.
"It's an unbelievable feeling. I never thought I would experience it. It's just overwhelming – it's brilliant," Sinéad enthused.
With Sinéad having sustained some injuries during the year, she had to watch Sunday's game from the bench but felt the management had a tough call to make in choosing the starting fifteen.
"The managers had a tough call, everyone was fighting for their place. With people gone back to college, they didn't get to train as much as well, so we just picked the best team we had on the day," she said.
With a young side, many of whom captured All-Ireland under 18 and under 16 successes this year, it's with great hope that Sinéad looks to the future – in search of a first senior championship success since 1994 – when Ann Downey captained Kilkenny to All-Ireland glory.
"We are after getting the under 16, the under 18 and the intermediate so that has done great things for our confidence, so hopefully we can build on it and get a senior title soon," Sinéad said.
But for now, Sinéad is looking forward to having a little bit of a break from the action, before setting her sights on senior honours next year.
"Hopefully we get a bit of a break, and then join back together and train just as hard and work on our win, and hopefully then we can push for the senior title."
