An enjoyable family day out is expected this bank holiday Monday May 3 for the Kilkenny Mini Marathon.
There will be a carnival atmosphere with popular local musicians The Briars entertaining participants at the mid-way point, and St Patrick’s Brass Band will play everybody home at the finish line. KCLR will also be on site playing music throughout the day.
There will also be team prizes, individual prizes and spot prizes, which will be awarded as people cross the finish line, and everyone will receive a Certificate of Completion.
Sheela Lynch, committee chairperson added, “almost 600 people of all ages and abilities took part last year, which was the biggest event of its kind ever in Kilkenny, and this year we are aiming to improve on that number.
“We had excellent feedback again last year, both from the more serious runners and people out for a nice walk in the country. Everyone enjoyed the course, which is organised by Kilkenny Road Runners, with professional medical back up provided by The Order of Malta.”
The closing date for registering for the Kilkenny Mini Marathon has been extended and now people can register right up to the start time. A late registration table will be set up outside Days Hotel on Monday.
Money raised through sponsorship cards is hugely important to The Carers’ Association and all the other local charities involved in fundraising. Like most organisations, The Carers’ Association has trimmed its costs without adversely affecting services, but fundraising is an integral part of maintaining the local Resource Centre. All funds raised for The Carers Association are spent locally.
There are over 5,000 family carers in the Kilkenny/Carlow area, providing close to 120,000 hours of care each week. The local Resource Centre provides information and advice for carers, together with practical in-home respite hours, to give carers a much needed break.
The Kilkenny Mini Marathon will commence on Monday May 3 at 3pm. The 10km run will start and finish at the Days Hotel and it is open to everyone.
Participants are welcome to run, jog, wheel, walk or talk their way around the 10km course.
Businesses can also support the Kilkenny Mini Marathon by entering a team or promoting the event internally, encouraging staff and families to participate, have some fun, and raise sponsorship through sponsorship cards.
Prizes will include hotel breaks sponsored by Days Hotel. Registration forms and sponsorship cards are available by phoning The Carers Association on 056-7721424 or by contacting The Carers’ Association website www.carersireland.com Registration costs €12 and all forms must be returned to The Carers’ Association office, Priors Orchard, John’s Quay, Kilkenny.
