Barnstorm Theatre Company’s new production Big Sister Little Brother asks some interesting questions of Rita and Archie. Why are they on the run?
Why do they have a scary monster with tentacles in a suitcase? And why did Archie put jam in the cheese sandwiches? But most of all, when are they going to get on?
The way Rita and Archie argue, they could be any brother and sister in Kilkenny… except that they are on the run from the Emperor. They tried to sell him magic garments made from invisible gold thread. And when it all goes horribly wrong, they blame each other. But while they can’t even agree on which way to run, you will discover why they always end up sticking together.
Based on The Emperor’s New Clothes, Big Sister Little Brother by Mike Kenny, is told from the perspective of the two children. And while they stop to tell the audience their story, they also play out a classic battle for power, with Rita(Aideen Wylde ) constantly bullying and pushing Archie(Paul Curley ) around, while he manages to undermine her authority and demands to be heard.
Schools are advised to contact Barnstorm on (056 ) 7751266 for tickets as althought the show has sold out, extra dates will now be added later in November, after the national tour.
Philip Hardy, Artistic Director of Barnstorm said, ‘we’re delighted with the huge response. This is the best feedback we can get.’ There are also a number of family shows during the mid-term break on October 27/28 which are now on sale from Barnstorm.
