Ezio raise the bar 10,000 times

Ezio has just launched his newest offering to the music- loving public and in his own words, ‘I have never felt prouder of a record. It is easily my favourite.’

And I have to say, I can see why he might say this. ‘Ten Thousand Bars’ is simply a beautiful CD.

Listening to this lovely synergie of effortless vocals, gutsy guitar and rhythmic percussion, one could be transported to a deckchair on the beach with an ipod, sun and nothing else. Happiness is listening to these perfect songs. I was going to listen to this CD, write this review and put the CD away, however, this collection of songs will be in my ‘listened to’ music collection. It is not going too far away from my CD player.

Having a soft spot for singer songwriters such as Mark Knophler, Ezio are not too far removed in some of their more mellow tracks, however, they can change their style just when you think you have pigeon-holed their music and do something uncharacterisic keeping us engaged!

“As a songwriter, I am never sure if what I come up with is any good,” says Ezio. Rest assured - this is hot stuff!

Ezio says that “the putting together of this album proved really hard. We started by trying to play all together as a band to get a really strong core performance but by the time the band was playing a song well enough, I had sung the song 15-20 times and the best performance had been misseed.”

And so a new approach began.

“This consisted of performing each song on my own just voice and guitar - the song was King! All the core performances are the best I have ever done.”

After listening to this album once - you will feel familiar with the tunes. ‘I Want You Back’ has a lovely easy listening feel to it while ‘Mandolin Song’ has tones of Mark Knophler’s deep and mellow moments. The lyrics tell a personal story of uncertainty - one that every one of us can relate to.

“Now I feel just like someone, stuck in a revolving door

I’m not in and I’m not out, I’ve just forgotten what I came here for.”

On the title track ‘Ten Thousand Bars’ we hear some perfect guitar accompaniment to the haunting lyrics and soft vocals that are Ezio.

‘So why is it always me that has to listen?

You’re always on transmit, you don’t receive’.

Ezio’s thought-provoking lyrics are relevant and honest and together with the music, tell their own intriguing story.

This is a not-to-missed gig, which is taking place in the perfect venue for this type of soulful out-pouring, Cleere’s Theatre on Parliament Street. If you can get your hands on this CD - it comes highly recommended!
