Hogan calls for independent monitors on bank boards

Kilkenny’s Deputy Phil Hogan has called on the Government to follow the lead of another Kilkennyman, Financial Regulator, Patrick Neary in the current banking crisis.

Deputy Hogan has demanded that the Government implement the Fine Gael proposal to have independent monitors appointed to the boards of banks.

“The financial regulator last week indicated his willingness to have independent officials from his office appointed to the boards of banks covered by the bank guarantee scheme,” said Deputy Hogan.

“This is crucial for taxpayers who want to be reassured that their interests are being protected and that banks are not engaging in reckless lending.”
