€16.5m housing allocation for Kilkenny

Fianna Fáil TD for Kilkenny John McGuinness has welcomed the announcement of more than €16.5 million for Kilkenny County and Borough Council housing programmes for 2010.

“I’m very happy to see over €13.5 million is being made available to Kilkenny County Council and just over €3 million is being allocated to Kilkenny Borough Council this year to improve housing supply and upgrade the current housing stock.

“This money will be very important to Kilkenny County Council and Kilkenny Borough Council this year and will see funds spent on Local Authority Housing to complete construction, acquire or lease houses, provide capital loans and provide Traveller accommodation in the area.

“As part of the allocation, €1.25 million is being channelled into retrofitting homes to improve energy efficiency. This is a particularly important investment to improve the local authority housing stock and reduce energy bills for residents,” concluded Deputy McGuinness.
