Good Friday Walk and prayers remembers abuse victims

The ninth annual Good Friday Walk will take place this afternoon along the streets of Kilkenny.

The Good Friday Walk has been held annually to remember victims of abuse.

A large crucifix will be carried along the route on Good Friday evening beginning outside the car park of MacDonagh Station which is the site of the old workhouse. The walk will then make its way down John Street through the Parade, up Patrick Street, and end in the Mill Hill Chapel in St Joseph’s (Formerly St Joseph’s Orphanage ).

The cross will be carried to remember all the people who have suffered abuse in its many forms - walking in solidarity with all who know the pain, hurt, sadness, and devastation of abuse.

All are invited to join the walk either at MacDonagh station or along the way. In the Mill Hill Chapel there will be a special time of Good Friday prayer with the Kilkenny Gospel Choir. It will be an opportunity to pray and reflect on the need for constant healing and peace for all victims of abuse.

“Every year people join the walk with a special intention but this year we are all united in the one intention of remembrance and that is our need to support, pray for, and walk with victims of abuse,” says Fr Willie Purcell, director of Kilkenny Outreach.
