Fine Gael Seanad Deputy Leader, Senator Liam Twomey, has criticised the Cabinet reshuffle which he described as conservative and cautious and which has left six counties in the south east without senior Government Minister representation at the Cabinet table.
“This reshuffle was a total missed opportunity which has merely given those at the top more time to do more damage. What’s more it has resulted in the deplorable outcome of six counties in the south east, Wexford, Waterford, Carlow, Tipperary, Wicklow and Kilkenny being left completely unrepresented at the Cabinet table.
“Under Fianna Fáil, Wexford has not had a senior Government Minister since the 1960s, a shocking indictment of the little regard in which they hold the people of the ‘model county’.
“These six counties which have been sidelined by Government represent in excess of half a million people and while I welcome the addition of Junior Ministers in Wexford and Kilkenny this is no compensation for the loss of a Cabinet seat for Wexford and the surrounding region.”
