Commuters to Waterford from Kilkenny will have a few extra minutes in bed in the mornings with the opening of the new stretch of the N9 / N10 dual carriageway from Knocktopher to Waterford on Monday.
The new route will be opened by the Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey at 11am on Monday March 22, at the new Knocktopher junction (junction 10 ). There will also be access to the new road from a junction at Mullinavat.
The road will reduce the length of time that it takes to travel to Waterford for motorists and when the new section opens closer to Kilkenny city - even more precious minutes will be culled from the journey time between Kilkenny and Waterford and Dublin and Waterford.
Prior to the official opening of the route a charity cycle will take to the road in a bid to raise funds for the Irish Hospice Foundation. The event takes place on Sunday from Danesfort to Waterford and back.
