Wellie Race Last Supper benefits 46 local charities

The final event of the 2010 Castlecomer Wellie Race has taken place and saw the funds raised from the popular annual event distributed amongst many needy charities.

The total money donated to charity from the Castlecomer Wellie Race 2010 was €30,000.

The ‘Last Supper’ event was held in Shortalls pub on the Square , and over 200 guests attended.

Chairman of the wellie race, Seamus Walsh thanked all who helped in any way to make Castlecomer Wellie Race 2010 so successful, despite the hard times that many people are enduring.

The annual event is now heading for its 31st year on January 1, 2010.

The community effort offered throughout the organising o and running of the event was recognised by all and the remarkable achievement in raising such a sum of money was also highlighted at the Last Supper event

Some 46 charities received donations and treasurer Chris Grammer gave a very detailed report to all present.

Some 73 adults received merit awards and 91 children received merit awards recentlyin The Thomas Coogan Library

Following the official business, music was provided by Michael Kealy.

Over 40 charities benefited from Wellie Race 2010 including Castlecomer Church Funds (€2,000 ), Castlecomer Hospital, (€2,000 ), Castlecomer Social Service (€2,000 ) and Castlecomer SVP (€2,000 ).
