As Ireland’s fragile economy struggles to fight its way back from the brink of collapse, one local business is organising its birthday celebrations.
When Essie Millie opened the doors of The Kilkenny School of Yoga she had no idea what an extraordinary journey of ups and downs she had let herself in for. But now four years on she is proud to be organising its birthday party with a variety of events on offer.
The birthplace of the yoga school was a modest studio on The High Street, but after two and a half years of settling in the school was forced to relocate amid the pressure of a collapsing economy.
During the following months Ms Millie searched for a suitable venue, pouring time and money into a studio in Irishtown only to have it fall through at the last minute, it looked like the business would be forced to close. Thankfully a space became available at the point where the school was on the verge of becoming another failing statistic in Kilkenny.
Essie Millie and her family threw themselves into making the rooms in Colliers Lane fit for purpose and the school reopened in February 2009 after a short period of closure.
Since relocating the school has gone from strength to strength and now occupies three studios and offers a wide array of classes from hot yoga to baby massage. The newest addition to the school is a luxurious treatment room that feels like a de luxe spa centre.
The birthday celebrations will take place between 11am and 8pm on March 20. People are invited to pop in, meet the teachers, and look around. There will free taster classes and refreshments available.
