A concert in aid of Haiti will take place in St Canice’s Cathedral on Sunday March 21 at 7.30pm. The four main Christian churches in Kilkenny have joined in this project to raise funds for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. The project, of which the concert is part, is known as the Kilkenny Christian Churches for Haiti.
A KCCH account is now open until Easter at St Canice’s Credit Union (account no 60741K ). Concert admission is free. The concert offers high quality music from a variety of local choirs and musicians, a collection will be taken up during the concert in aid of the Concern Haiti Appeal and people are asked to contribute what they can. The programme for the concert provides a range of talented choirs and musicians including: Ave Verum Corpus; Laudate Dominum (WA Mozart ); Locus Iste (A Bruckner ) - St Canice’s Cathedral Choir and Unity Singers, The Souls of the Righteous (S Marchant ); The Armed Man- a Mass for Peace: Sanctus and Benedictus (K Jenkins )- Kilkenny College Chamber Choir, Elijah:- Lift Thine Eyes (F Mendelssohn ); Aidemus (K Jenkins )- Presentation Secondary School Choir, Aus tiefer Noth schrei ich zu dir (BWV 686 ) “I call to you out of deep distress” (JS Bach )- Malcolm Proud, Summertime; Dance of the Reed Pipes; Tango Expressivo - St Canice’s Co-Ed String Quartet (”Simply Strings” ), Trup Trup a Chapaillin; Mo Ghille Mear- Gaelscoil Osrai. The clergy will read a number of short reflections and readings representing each of the four main Christian churches in Kilkenny. Jonathan Power from Concern will speak during the concert on the work being done by Concern in Haiti since 1994 and since the devastating effects of the earthquakes.
