Classic parody with Apres Match

With a World Cup just around the corner, the timing could not be better for every discerning Irish sports fan’s favourite comedy triumvirate to bring their new show to the Kilkenny stage.

Yes, the Apres Match team of Gary Cooke, Risteard Cooper and Barry Murphy have come out of hibernation and are set to play ball once again, with a new show featuring the sensational singing trio ‘The River Tenors’, renowned throughout Leitrim.

They will perform at Set Theatre, Langton’s Hotel, Kilkenny on Saturday, April 24.

The Apres Match team first appeared on RTE during the 1998 World Cup in France, quickly winning acclaim for their incisive parodies of RTE soccer pundits Bill O’Herlihy, John Giles, Eamon Dunphy, Liam Brady, Frank Stapleton and Graeme Souness as well as Irish and British TV, radio, and sport personalities such as George Hook, Joe Duffy, Gerry Ryan, Gary Lineker, Richard Keys, Andy Gray and Alan Hansen.

Since they debuted the trio have performed a string of sold out shows throughout the country at venues including Vicar Street, the Gaiety Theatre and the Olympia Theatre, as well as producing six chart-topping DVDs and a chart hit with their novelty song, ‘Oki Doki Karioki’, for the 2002 World Cup.

Alongside the usual blend of weird and wonderful characters, the new show will also include new targets such as Martin O’Neill, Ryan Tubridy, Brendan O’Connor, Vincent Browne, and Joan Burton and many more.

With the football feast that promises to be South Africa 2010 imminent and the Apres Match lads sure to play a major role in the excitement and entertainment, what better time to catch up on their comedy musings.

Apres Match perform at the Set Theatre, Kilkenny on Saturday, April 24. Tickets are available now for €25.
